Get Involved

We are temporarily pausing our intake of volunteer inquiry forms as we catch up and do some reworking of our intake processes. Your interest in contributing and being a part of something is so important and we’re glad you’re putting your feelers out and taking steps. Don’t stop! 💡We made the Dispatch for this purpose–so that people can easily find a group that fits whether that means in their neighborhood, their schedule or area of interest. Scroll through the back issues of the web archive or on IG where groups are tagged. 📆 Our Volunteer Opps + Events Calendar is another way to see where you can plug in . We keep it filled with up-to-date opportunities with the groups in the most current Dispatch. There are so many mutual aid groups all over Los Angeles, needing and inviting you in. Keep this momentum going, choose a project as a starting point and go from there.

Regarding MALAN projects, you’re welcome to join us at 🥦Produce in the Park any Thursday. And we are always collecting hygiene items for 🧴Hygiene Hello! Reach out to info@mutualaidla.org with any q’s. Thank you!

Become a Resource Responder right away!

Resource Responders are a web of volunteers that help procure supplies from donors who live nearby. An individual Resource Responder is willing to…

  1. be a drop-off spot for someone with a donation of items we need and have put a call out for, like plastic bags for Produce in the Park, for example.
  2. pick-up a donation of items from an address within a radial distance you’re comfortable traveling.
  3. do either, as needed and as you’re available.

A volunteer fills out our Resource Responder form indicating their proximate location and their handoff preferences which might be to do the picking up or to be picked up from or maybe they have no preference at all. Upon submitting, the Resource Responder and their location become a point on a private internal map along with other Resource Responders, making it simple for a MALAN project coordinator to determine the most efficient match for an incoming donation.

The goal of this tool is to make giving and receiving resources easier (on people and on mother earth) by piggybacking onto locations and trips around town people involved already have set up. This is a low-commitment project that works well with any type of schedule. Participants can pass on opportunities or opt-out completely at any time. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, ideas or concerns around this tool, as it is always being fine-tuned.
